Introduction
On Falgun 27, 2073, as per the notice published in the Nepal Gazette by the Nepal Government to the local levels, based on the recommendations of the Local Level Determination and Recommendation Commission of 2073, when the Nepal Government announced local levels in 753 across the country, Sunkoshi Rural Municipality was divided into 7 wards. According to the announcement of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality, it was established legally on 23 Ashadh, 2073, by merging 6 rural villages namely Thokarpa, Kalika, Yamunadanda, Sunkhani, Thumpakhar and Pangretar of Savik in Sindhupalchowk district.
Among the 12 municipalities in Sindhupalchok district under the Bagmati province of Nepal, it is located in the southeast region of the district. This rural municipality is spread over an area of 72.84 square km. which is 3.88 percent of the total area of Sindhupalchok district. Lisankhupakhar rural municipality and Tripurasundari rural municipality are in the east of this rural municipality, Chautara Sangachokgadhi municipality and Balefi rural municipality are in the west, Chautara Sangachokgadhi municipality, Balefi rural municipality and Tripurasundari rural municipality are in the north and Lisankhupakhar rural municipality and Kavrepalanchorak district are in the south. It is situated at a distance o 77.6 km from the capital Kathmandu through Midhill Highway and Araniko Highway. The rural municipality is named after the Sunkoshi river flowing on the boundary of the rural municipality.
